Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has undertaken a detailed inspection of the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) located in Alexandria to evaluate the progress and performance of its recently expanded production facilities. This inspection comes in the wake of significant upgrades that have notably increased the refinery’s production capacity to 160,000 barrels per day (bbl/d). This enhanced capacity now plays a crucial role in addressing 25% of the local demand for gasoline and diesel, reflecting the refinery's pivotal role in meeting regional energy needs. During the inspection, Minister Badawi reviewed the trial operations of all production units to ensure that the expansion and modernization efforts are functioning as planned. Salah Gaber, Chairman of MIDOR, provided insights into the scope and scale of the investment involved. He detailed that the expansion project, which included both the development of new facilities and significant improvements to existing units, required a substantial investment of $2.7 billion. This comprehensive investment underscores MIDOR’s commitment to enhancing its operational efficiency and production capabilities to better serve the local market and contribute to the national energy strategy.
